GAULT MILLAU 2005:
This winery has been marketing wine in bottles since 1959, Theo Gehring took over the business from his parents in 1995. It did not take long for him and his wife Diana to implement their own ideas. A big change was due in mid-2001 when they moved from very cramped quarters in Nierstein to a farm complex in the middle of the vineyards. In terms of vineyards, they have some respectable parcels closer to the Rhine, in the famous Roter Hang. The potential of these sites was brought out very well in 2001. Last year we were more impressed by the basic wines. Theo Gehring has managed to master the challenges of the dry 2003 vintage very well, his range is not lacking in charm. The red wines as well as the Beerenauslese and Trockenbeerenauslese wines were not ready for tasting at time of going to press. Dry wines are designated with stars to indicate their quality.
